Of all the sports that have goalies, the goalie that I have traveled the furthest to see is Mandy Schwartz.
One or two people know exactly what is going on here...and you don't know whats going on if your not those one or two people.
Other random things:
The longest I traveled in one day driving just for a sporting event was many hours from Stamford to Pocono Raceway for a NASCAR race.
I saw an IRL Race and the Women's Basketball Final Four game for UConn vs Stanford in Tampa in 2008. It was kind of far, but doesn't really count because I also went to see family and take a vacation and enjoy FLORIDA...a place I love.
I also went on a trip to Toronto and Montreal and Vermont and saw 5 or 6 baseball games in a week. I saw a single A game in Vermont and saw the Expos vs the Mets and several Blue Jays games during the same trip.
The earliest I got up for an event...probably UConn rowing...which is fitting because I don't think any team gets up earlier than they do.
The latest I got back from a game was probably UConn Women's Basketball after they defeated Rutgers in the 2008 Elite 8. I think I left the arena in Greensboro at like 12:00 or 12:30 and ended up picking up my Aunt in Burlington, North Carolina (Home of the great Elon University) and then drove back to her house in Durham, North Carolina (Home of the horrible Duke University...I had to) at around 2 am. I got up at 4am to get to the airport for my 6:15 am flight so I could get back for Geology with Ms. Nagel at 11 am...I actually got to class 15 minutes early that morning...straight from North Carolina.
I don't remember the hottest or coldest games I've been to. I have to say that Men's Soccer vs Fairfield was the coldest that I remember.
I just wrote about NASCAR, Rowing, the IRL, baseball, women's soccer, men's soccer and women's basketball in one post. Not many people who talk about sports can do that.
I also realize that I'm pretty easy to spot considering I was one of only a couple people to show up at Rowing and Track and Field on the same day. That makes me really easy to spot.
However, unlike other fans, I do not paint myself, I don't heckle (unless you play on St. Johns...then you deserve it) I don't usually jump up and down. I'll do a fist pump, or clap my hands once or twice when my team does something good, but usually I remain quiet and observe the game and my surroundings. The only exception I make is football because I know being loud will amp up the defense, make the offense struggle to run plays and audibles and cause false starts and delay of games.
But in general I'm not a yeller and screamer.
