According to a 1997 study...

The highest GPA's of prospective Division 1 student-athletes were female athletes, followed by male Olympic athletes followed by revenue producing male athletes.

The highest SAT scores for prospective Division 1 athletes were male Olympic athletes, followed by female athletes, followed by male revenue producing athletes.

Overall in 1998 4.1% of prospective female athletes, 6.3% of prospective male Olympic athletes and 13.2% of prospective male revenue athletes were ineligible.

Female prospective student athletes had a higher SAT score average over the national average by 102 points, Male Olympic prospective student athletes had a higher SAT score average over the national average by 82 points. Male Revenue athletes averaged 31 points lower on the SAT than the national average in 1998
