Rain Delay

So at the Yankees Red Sox game there was an hour and fifteen minute rain delay. I think that is the longest rain delay that I have ever been through. Maybe the only one I have been through although I do remember sitting in the upper deck of Shea Stadium for a Mets vs Braves game and had the wind blowing rain off the roof and onto our backs. Quite an experience. The Mets also lost. Well worth the trip! Sort of like that time I went to a Mets vs Mariners doubleheader at Shea and the Mets lost a combined 20-1. Also AWESOME!

Sitting at a ball park with a rain delay can be brutal because you have no idea what the heck is going on. On TV you can switch channels and come back to check the weather radar and status of the game. At the ballpark you can't do that. You text people you hope and pray are watching the game for updates.

You get no information when sitting in the seats and my uncle had an interesting explanation as to why fans never hear about what is going on. He thought that it was so the fans would go to the concessions and buy the food that was cooked for the game. You wouldn't want to tell the fans that the game is postponed if you have already prepared a lot of food to be sold. You wait to tell fans until the last possible second so you encourage people to buy things before they leave. Interesting theory, and I wonder if there is any truth to it.
