Gummy Bears

Lets put this in one sentence.

Gummy bears, first down markers and snow.

Ok that was a fragment for all you English majors.

So a long long time ago I played football with my neighbor Patrick in the snow. It was a pick up game with little kid rules. We had first down markers for this game in the snow. We used gummy bears.

Imagine the Super Bowl using Gummy Bears for first down markers?

"It's two inches short of a gummy bear for a first down"

(Somehow I think a marketer will come up with this idea as a way of cramming in more advertisements into the Super Bowl)

So anyway by the 4th grade I knew that players would stretch for a first down. Players would stretch out their arms before their knee hit the ground for a first down.

I understood that rule, my neighbor Patrick did not. He thought you placed the ball where the arm stretched out after your knee was down.

Obviously this caused a huge argument between two very competitive people. We argued about stretching for a first down. After that we argued about gummy bears. I think we used a couple of bears for the line of scrimmage and the first down marker. We argued about which gummy bear was the first down marker.

"No red gummy bear was the line of scrimmage and yellow gummy bear was the first down marker"

"No yellow gummy bear was the line of scrimmage and red gummy bears was the first down marker"

(Basically it was a much more heated exchange of the white zone/red zone scene from the classic movie AIRPLANE...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTZUjJXlU90 If you haven't seen that movie there is something wrong with you. Apparently there is something wrong with me because I've never seen Mighty Ducks...atleast 10 people can't believe I've never seen that movie)

"No"

"No"

"I quit"

"Fine"

Lesson of the day:

Don't put gummy bears, snow and first down markers together.

I had to tell this story though. I thought it was funny since it was from 4th grade pick up youth sports.
