Facilties

So I should have written about this a long time ago but I forgot too, or atleast I think I forgot too so I will talk about it now.

For my Sport Event and Facilities Management class we had a women from the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport come in and speak with us. She talked about a few things that you wouldn't expect an arena to host, but has the ability to host. When you own an arena you want it operating and generating revenue, no matter how possible. This might mean for example that an arena plays host to a band or performers rehearsals. For all you know Jay-Z or Kenny Chesney could be singing in an arena by you without anyone knowing. It could be a show for an empty arena. Arena's can also become movie production sets. Some movies can rent out an arena for a couple days to shoot a scene or two. Even with all the cost involved there is no guarantee that those parts will make it in.

Rentschler field was also an interesting tour that we went on. We got to see the holding cells for unruly fans. Usually the worst fans at Rentschler field are the kids who are just out of college, AKA me, and people who have had a few too many drinks. In order to combat any bad fan behavior Rentschler has security cameras at different locations around the stadium that are monitored downstairs. They can zoom in to a specific person. If you are acting stupidly chances are good it will be captured and people will be able to tell that it is you.

I thought it was interesting how Rentschler also has to deal with weeds and crab grass. They start to take out those bad patches of grass and plant seeds in the spring.

Rentschler does has room for more seats as many people have speculated on. Most people know this. I think they can add to somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 more seats. They can add opposite of the Press Box and opposite of the scoreboard. The scoreboard is supposedly going to remain an open end.

Also Rentschler allows some people who are needy or trying to raise money to collect cans in the parking lot the morning after games. I think they said one person was able to buy a car after the season was over but I could be wrong on that.
