Diets

So I want to dedicate a post to the diets of athletes because it seems like such an interesting thing to talk about. Everyone assumes that athletes eat so healthy. So HEALTHY.

In reality saying that athletes don't eat poorly would be like saying the Marlboro Man doesn't smoke cigarettes. (Smoking to me is one of the MOST DISGUSTING things in the world)

I know a professional athlete, and alternate Olympic athlete, who I've seen in pictures drinking a soda after a game. She also likes to eat bacon.

I know a former athlete who could down a big bag of skittles quicker than lead could sink to the bottom of a pool.

I know a two sport athlete who eats more gummy worms in a day than most elementary school kids eat in a year. (Now I am obsessed with eating them because of her)

I know another former athlete who could eat anything anywhere. I went to a soccer game with her and she needed to go to get some fast food at halftime.

I brought Christmas Popcorn to the office and the track team apparently demolished it.

When I was cycling 20 miles everyday I could easily down a whole row of double stuff oreos without thinking twice or putting on a pound.

Think about Michael Phelps diet???

The amazing thing about everyone I spoke about is that we, (including me) are all in great shape. You would never know by looking at them as to just unhealthy they can and often do eat.

Athletes eat so much and they don't all eat as healthy as you might think. They usually eat healthy...healthier before competitions and in season, but out of it or when they are retired...forget about it with some of them. Too many athletes look like the average sports reporter five years after retirement. Basically overweight and unable to run a quarter mile without throwing up.

I remember one athlete who ordered a salad for a post game meal. There is one athlete I think of when I think of healthy eaters. She plays her position like the Great Wall of China and hopefully those close to her won't contradict what I just said.

One thing we learned in sports psychology is that athletes are some of the most disordered eaters. I can think of so many reasons why this is true.
