so as of 2006 the median average College Football team had a revenue of 10.6 million and spent 8.5 million
The median average men's basketball program had 4.0 million in revenue and 2.7million in expenses.
The median average women's basketball program had 183k in revenue and 1.5million in expenses.
All of these are Football Bowl Series schools...
The median average men's basketall coach at a FBS school made over $611,000 in 2006. The median average women's coach at a FBS school made $241,500
Women's coaches salaries increased by 5% more than men's coaches salaries in that time span. 20% to 15%
The median salary of a football coach in 2006 was 855,000 and schools spent another median average of 1.46 million on football assistant coaches.
The largest revenues of a football team in 2006 was $63 million, Men's basketball $21.4 million and women's basketball was $5.4 million
In 2006, of the 119 schools 67 football programs, 68 men's basketball programs and 2 women's basketball programs had more revenue than expenses.
The 3 largest sources (on average) of generated revenue for a FBS school is 1. Cash Contributions from Alumni and others, 2. Tickets Sales, 3. NCAA and Conference Distributions.
Salaries, Grants in Aid and Facilities Maintenance are the largest expenditures. (on average)
Based on the median averages of FBS schools, only Men's Basketball and Football made money. Women's Basketball is on average the biggest money loser.
Since I love soccer...here is some soccer money. The average men's soccer program made $86,000 in generated revenues and had expenses of $569,600...women's soccer made on average in generated revenues $42,700 and spent $669,500...basically the average soccer program at a FBS school loses a lot of money.
