There was an amazing play in the college Lacrosse Championship game between Cornell and Syracuse. Syracuse took the ball away from Cornell really late in the game. A Syracuse player made a sick pass to a Syracuse player who made a nice catch, who somehow passed it again, had it deflect off of a Cornell Defenders stick and into a Syracuse stick. The Syracuse player scored to tie the game with 4 seconds left. Syracuse went on to win the championship in overtime for the second year in a row.
Northwestern won the girls lacrosse championship for the 5th year in a row.
Also I saw a bit of the NASCAR race today and I couldn't help but notice that they stopped the event at 3pm to have a moment of silence for the military on Memorial Day. I thought it was a great gesture...They lined the cars up on the front straight away during the middle of the race and had the drivers shut off their engines in memory of those who have fought for us. How many other sports would stop in the middle of the event to do that?
On this day I also want to thank all of the people who have served and are serving our country in the armed forces. I come from a military family and have had relatives serve in World War II, Korea, Desert Storm and The War in Iraq.
I also want to thank two athletes who are involved with UConn who have spent time in the military. Those two would be Zak Penwell who is a strength and conditioning coach and former football player and also Mikey Sevick of the rowing team.
