The New England Mutiny advanced in the playoffs today. This means I might be able to have an excuse to talk about Meghan Cunningham for another week!
Just kidding.
I am happy that their team advanced because they have had to work extremely hard to get themselves into the playoffs. Their team has had some injuries and is also on the young side. I am happy to see them having success. They have noticably (in terms of box scores) increased their scoring lately.
They won 4-1 today. Erin Clark scored...which means that she is now tied with Meghan Cunningham for having the most goals for a UConn summer league player.
Apparently Clark had a spectacular individual effort and dribbled by a couple of defenders.
Clark must be really good at dribbling....I am not....I only bring this up because I read a chapter on dribbling in soccer in a book I am reading.
(The most important thing that I learned from this book was NEVER to attempt a rainbow during a game...I'll keep that in mind...not too worried since I haven't mastered dribbling yet...I must say that the writer of this book is pretty knowledgeable when it comes to soccer...you should listen to them if you ever think about doing a rainbow during a game...unless your up by 10 and it's against...well a certain team...then I said it's ok...too bad I am really a nobody)
If I remember correctly somewhere in the media guide it said that Clark was good in 1 v 1 situations...dribbling past an entire defense is a good indication of that.
Danielle Dakin also scored for the Mutiny...she'll be a familiar name soon enough...
Speaking of Dribbling past a defense I read that some people consider this to be one of the greatest goals in soccer...because Diego Maradona dribbles past so many defenders...
