Football was a lot of fun this year. Again. The first game I ever worked was the Hofstra game. I wasn't quite ready to walk on to the field with 40,000 people looking on. Well that was the West Virginia game that had that many people that were staring at me. I was so afraid of slipping and falling. Thankfully I didn't. I also wasn't prepared to see how crazy people would go for free T-Shirts.
I remember that at the beginning of this year that I expected big things from Andre Dixon. I was shocked at how much Donald Brown played. Donald Brown did more than I ever thought possible. I was able to watch one game as a fan. It was the Virginia game. I was expecting that to be an amazing game. I was so psyched for it. I thought it would be a close game, like the games of 2007. I mean it's an ACC school, Virginia who was produced NFL players like Heath Miller, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Thomas Jones and Chris Long. I drove and got their early so I could explore Cabelas. Man I love that store. All the fishing gear you could imagine, all the outdoors stuff you could ever need. They had an aquarium full of fish. I saw some Bass that I really wanted to catch. They also had some BIG dead stuffed animals. Like an elephant and grizzly bear. I loved Cabelas.
I got to the game early, like usual. Al Groh came over to the student section. He asked us if we were the famous "Dog Pound." Al Groh was really, really nice. I have a lot of respect for him. Coming over to say hello to the opposing schools student section. I just wish some of the other UConn students showed some more respect for him.
I also remember Ryan Grace bringing his famous backpack with him to a game but it wasn't allowed by security. That was quite a process. Not sure I remember exactly what happened, but I think Ryan got his backpack back.
It also was a great game for UConn. Very Entertaining because we won 45-10. I couldn't believe that it was so easy.
The electricity at Rentscher field for West Virginia was amazing. It was so loud and it was a really good game for the first half.
It was really interesting passing out T-Shirts to students at that game though. Man on Man the students were surrounding me for T-Shirts. Football was a lot of fun and I loved being able to run around in the Press Box getting things for work.
Also a fun fact is that those big banners that say "This is Connecticut, This is UConn Country." Well we had to take those down after every game and they weighed like 70-80 pounds when rolled up.
Football was a lot of fun, but I had missed so many games than in years past. It was ok, UConn won without me screaming in the stands. I also saw a lot of soccer because of it. I also had to miss our bowl game again because I was at basketball on January 3rd.
The game I most enjoyed watching was our road game against Louisville when Lawrence Wilson picked off Louisville and returned it for the game winning score. That game was exciting.
