This is what Kristine Lilly said about making a tremendous play when she headed the ball away from the goal in the 1999 Women's World Cup... "Just doing my job."
When talking about a key play being made I feel like most athletes are going to say the same thing "well we work hard in practice on that and it paid off"...something to that effect.
They do work hard in practice. Athletes often don't really know what to say to questions because so much of what they do in a game is based on an instinct. They've been playing for so long that they don't think about what they are doing. They were doing what their instincts were telling them to do. I think Lilly's quote is perfect. She was just doing her job. She didn't think about it, she just did it.
