Yeah, My dad has something in common with Jerome Dyson, Caroline Doty, Kalana Greene, Brittany Taylor, O'Brian White, Karl Schilling, Lauren Sparks, Sam Kelley, Meghan Nanfeldt, Ashley O'Brien, Brittany Hunter, A.J. Price, Jessica Diakun, Gina Heiderman (wow old school volleyball) and Darius Butler.
Unlike them my dad can't catch a ball, but like them he has,or had a serious knee injury. As a matter of fact my dad's happened about 2 hours ago as he and I were hiking Mt. Watatic. At least my dad saw the top. As he was coming down he slipped and fell and right away he felt it. Not sure what exactly he did yet. He said it felt similar to when he tore his quad. I knew right away that it was not good. I've seen enough knee injuries at UConn to know that this was going to be one long way back. It was. Thankfully there was a group of 3 people from Manchester, CT, Kara, Josh and Dave who helped get my dad down. Josh, Dave and I worked together to get my dad slowly down the mountain. We needed all 3 of us to manuever around the rocks, through some mud and one small...but with a hurt knee...tough water hazard to get over. We found a stick along the way to serve as a crutch. It also happened to be about 10 days before my dad's 60th birthday. (yes he became a father when he was 39) My Uncle fell and hurt himself really really badly on his 60th birthday. If I get that old I will do nothing a month before and month after my 60th birthday.
These next couple of weeks could be interesting as I will most likely be helping him out. I feel really bad for him and anyone else who goes through a knee injury. These injuries suck. This is the second knee injury for him and I remember how limited he was with his first one. Trust me, your memorial day weekend will not be as bad as his...and my dad's will probably not be as bad as someone else.
At least my dad has been able to see all these people on the UConn posters in my game room. It makes him feel better that he has some company.
