So today was the day that we decorated our Christmas Tree. I have a lot of ornaments. Somehow they always seem to end up front top and center on the tree. I wonder how that could be! We’ve got our bases covered. Everyone in the family has their own ornament, my sister and I each got one when we were born. We also have one for my parents jobs; teacher and real estate agent. We have them from places we’ve been, like Niagra Falls and Lake Winnipesaukee. On top we put an Angel. We put an American Flag ornament and also an ornament that recognizes all of the branches of the armed services to represent all of our family members who have served and to everyone who is serving now. We also commemorate 9/11 with an ornament. Around Stamford it’s hard not to know someone who was affected by that day.
On top of that I have a lot of ornaments. My tree is probably the only tree that has a UConn basketball ornament right under the angel. Under that I have Emmitt Smith and a Cowboys football and under that a Mets Ornament. All front and center for everyone to see. We also have Willie Mays, the best all around baseball player ever on the tree. Nothing says Christmas quite like that. All of these ornaments got me thinking though. I felt like I was missing some UConn ornaments. So what athletes do I wish were on my tree? Here is my list of 10, plus 5 UConn related ones.
First for 5 other ones. Everyone thinks about UConn Basketball. So its natural to have an ornament for those teams. How about a UConn Football and UConn Soccer ornament. Those teams are pretty good and need some representation. So that leaves 3 more
President Hogan. He is always around and always in a good mood. He makes the world a happier place and he always supports UConn at events. Even Fall Softball.
Coach Calhoun and Coach Auriemma. Geno has too much swag not to be on every Christmas Tree. They have both done so much for UConn and the State of Connecticut that they are kind of like Santa Claus in a way.
Now for the Athletes
Kaili McLaren. She’s one of the nicest and coolest people in the world.
Donald Brown. Nothing says the Christmas season like Bowl Games and football. I have the all-time leading NFL rusher on my tree (Emmitt Smith) so why not put the nations leading rusher for 2008 on my tree.
Maya Moore. She’s one of the greatest people you could ever meet. She introduces herself to the kids of reporters when they are at work with their parents.
Hasheem Thabeet. Once you’ve been decorating your tree for awhile and you’re almost done you always seem to notice a gap where you just wish you could put one ornament to cover it all up. What better than an ornament of a 7 foot 3 basketball player
Akeem Priestley and O’Brian White. Some people dream of a white Christmas. I dream of a Christmas on a Jamaican beach. O’B and Akeem could also kick the Grinch away.
Stephanie Labbe. She’d also be useful. Some people are really worried about a dead tree catching fire. I bet she’d save the day.
Meghan Cunningham. Anyone who watches the Tree Hill Ravens for 5 minutes is an Angel. Plus Ryan Grace said she was an Angel, which makes her more of an Angel. Plus she collected toys from me at the SAAC toy drive.
Desi Cullen. Nothing says UConn quite like Desi. Only at UConn is the punter more popular than the starting Quarterback
Katy Ryan. She’d be a special ornament because she’d dance and carol at 7 in the morning.
Too bad it’s an NCAA violation to make them.
There are several other athletes that I would have loved to have put up. Hasheem just takes up so much room.
I would actually buy an OB and Akeem ornament too. I would've also added the two Erins to this list. You know who I'm talking about Tim.
ReplyDeleteIf the list was 12, you know they'd both be on it
