The highest annual average salaries for pitchers in the AL are those salaries, Those are of Yankees C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Mariano Rivera. You could argue that not one of those guys are one of the top 3 pitchers in their league. I'd probably put Sabathia in there but again there is no way he is worth $23 million per year.

Burnett's best years have come in walk years. He is an injury waiting to happen. At some point, some point Rivera won't be dominant, he's getting older, it has to happen some time. Don't know when, but it will. Same goes for Jeter.

The fact that the Yankees are full of old overpaid stars is reason enough for everyone who isn't a Yankees fan to hate them. Even if they are Red Sox or Mets fans whose teams spend a lot of money too. Those two teams spend a lot of money, but not as unwisely or carelessly as the Yankees. It also will make me want to see the Rays absolutely murder the Yankees when they play.

Also, considering that the prices of the Mets and Yankees tickets have gone up by a lot at a time that people can't afford it, let me suggest going to minor league or college baseball. It's affordable, fun and even more fan friendly.
