The best game for UCONN on Saturday was not the football game, it was the Field Hockey game between #5 UCONN and #16 Louisville.
Allison Angulo had her first career goal and also picked up an assist.
Melissa Gonzalez had a beautiful back hand goal. It was really impressive. She was also really getting by defenders well. She plays in the midfield now, so she doesn't score as many goals as before, but she is just as important to the team.
Louisville scored two consecutive goals to force overtime.
In both overtimes UCONN and Louisville had multiple chances to put the game away. No one did score in the first over time so we went to a 2nd overtime.
Cara Silverman netted the game winning goal in the 2nd overtime.
I was so happy we won, and that the game was over because I really had to use the bathroom. As public announcer I get plenty of bottled water to drink at the game. Trust me, I drink a lot of it. The problem is that as public announcer I just can't get up and leave to use the bathroom, and I'm not a NASCAR driver so I'm not just going to go. (So that answers any questions about how they drive that long without a break)
The crowd was really into the game, and hopefully they will come back. The crowd was at the edge of their seats and they erupted after Silverman scored.
The game also culminated the end of the "10 Days of Hope" a fundraiser that was started to raise awareness about Ovarian Cancer, which is something that Cara Silverman's mom had fought. The Field Hockey teams efforts raised $1,100 for their cause.
I donated and I hope you did too.
UCONN still has several great matchups on their schedule. They have games at Princeton and home against UMass and Syracuse. Don't forget to stop by and catch a UCONN Field Hockey game. We are one of the top few teams in the country. We remain undefeated.
