I have to say that you really do hear some great stories at the marketing table when athletes friends come and pick up things. It's funny how excited they are to see their roommate, or suite mate or high school teammate on a poster. There were some girls today who were disappointed that an athlete wasn't on a poster. I told them they were a year late, because last year the athlete was on the poster.
It's also a little weird to be on campus now and pass by all these people that I write or used to write about. It's even weirder because I know that some of them have read it which I guess means that they have an opinion about me. I hope I am respected.
I also got to go on Gampel and shoot today. That was so cool. I took a lay-up...because why not. Then I shot an airball...with a women's ball which is lighter than what I usually shoot with. I re-adjusted and knocked in a three. That was definitely a dream of mine. I also have to say...I was so excited that I didn't pay attention to the fact that it was in Gampel. I just focused on the hoop. Had I focused on the fact that I was on Gampel, taking a shot...I think I would have missed. I would have concentrated on...wow oh my, I'm shooting on Gampel rather than wow, let's knock down that shot. It was also sweet redemption for the half court shot I took after a women's basketball practice that went off the front rim on my first and only attempt. The shot that would have pissed off Tahirah Williams had it gone in.
The last cool thing is that my weightlifting class will allow me to workout in the vasrsity gym. I think this is really cool. I also love being able to see the UConn athletes that were honored for their hard work in the gym. I loved seeing people I know like Anthony Burris and Tyrone Faverey up there. I remember Maya Moore and Lorin Dixon and also Melissa Gonzalez being honored for their work.
