UFA's

I have read...

that Julius Williams and Tyler Lorenzen were signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. I am really surprised that the Patriots didn't sign Lorenzen. Coach Bill Belichick wanted to see Lorenzen at safety at pro day at UConn according to the Hartford Courant. I am surprised that he didn't take Lorenzen.

The Bears signed Dahna Deleston and I won't lie I am disappointed that the Cowboys didn't draft him. Although I remember talking to Dahna last year and he said that he didn't want to be a Cowboy, so I guess he's happy. I am also disappointed that Julius Williams wasn't drafted because I thought that his numbers were absolutely amazing at Pro Day. I thought he deserved to be picked. A team is getting a pretty good player with a chip on his shoulder because he was not drafted.

The Panthers picked up Keith Gray.

I don't understand the Raiders. They picked Michael Mitchell who wasn't even ranked by scouts inc. I think Mel Kiper said that he had Mitchell as his like 70th best safety. Maybe 40th at best. You don't take either the 40th or 70th best safety with the 47th overall pick. The Raiders could have easily taken him in the 5th round...and more than likely just signed him as an Undrafted Free Agent...But to take him in the 2nd round and pay him 2nd round money is completely idiotic.

The Cowboys had an interesting draft. I think their hope is that 4 of their 12 picks really develop into players. All these guys were in the late rounds. They are low risk high reward picks considering they were all 3rd round picks or later. I didn't understand why we drafted a kicker when we already have Nick Folk. But I loved that we picked up both of Cincinnati cornerbacks, DeAngelo Smith and Mike Mickens. I liked both of those players on the Bearcats and I think at least one of them will develop into something useful in the NFL.

If I was a team looking to rebuild I would have picked either a dominant linebacker or defensive end or a dominant Offensive Tackle if I want to build a winning football team. I believe that games are won and lost at the lines. If you don't have a line you can't run or throw so I would start by building that before anything else.

I also like what the Patriots do which is trade down and accumulate a lot of picks. I think that is smart. Draft picks are like money, currency, in the NFL.

The Jets and Redskins scare me because they too often give up a lot of draft picks to move up. I don't think you can win like that...and they haven't to be honest.

I also sort of laugh at the draft rankings...Really the only time to evaluate a draft or recruiting class is after they have played for their school or played in the league for 4 years or more.
