I finished 3rd place in the Davenport Elementary School 3rd grade field day in the egg and spoon race and potato sack race.
I am very upset that I finished in 3rd. My conditioning was not up to par. I have since improved that. My concentration in the practices leading up to the contest were also not acceptable. I remember it well, rather than practice I played Chutes and Ladders. I have learned my lessons though. My kids will put in 110% for their field day.
However, I am also pissed at my field day coach. I went on a training trip to Florida to learn how to roll tires perfectly at my Grandpa's tire retreading shop. He knew I put in all that hard work in Immokalee, FL. (Hometown of Edgerrin James) Hours of tirelessly rolling tires and my coach benched me in that event for a new kid at school. And what do you think that new kid did? He went off course and we were disqualified. I would have won that event for our team, and gotten us ice cream sundaes and 5 gold stars because of my performance. But no, our coach messed it up. He should have been fired because of his decision to bench me. At least all of the sports writers who covered the event are smart enough not to vote him into the Field Day hall of fame.
