As you know by now I love Sports. Well at least I hope you can tell. As far as I am concerned there is no wrong place to talk about sports, UConn, UConn soccer or how unperfect Catholic schools are (Even in the parking lot of a Catholic Church.) Yes I started talking to a St. John's family friend that I hadn't seen in 4 months in a church parking lot. In his world St. John's is perfect. In my world it's not. As a matter of fact nothing is perfect. In his world UConn and any other public school is the worst place ever. I've gone to public school my entire life and I've turned out pretty darn well.
Anyway as a sports fan and family friend and huge UConn fan I had to bring up the Women's Soccer Senior Day against St. Johns. I told him about how the St. John's student fan group started yelling obscenities at UConn players. He said that the UConn player probably deserved it. I was kind of in disbelief so I went to the more appalling thing that happened, UConn's Melissa Busque was kicked in the head by a St. John's player. I was in shocked, when he SERIOUSLY, without a smirk or smile, said that she deserved it. So apparently it's ok according to this St. John's fan for a St. John's player to go kick someone in the head if they don't go to a Catholic school. He said it was ok because the St. John's player was doing missionary work...Excuse me? Maybe she is, I have no way of knowing, but do you really want someone who kicks someone in the head to be doing missionary work? What a great way to spread your religion. I hope they use "we are a loving and accepting people" as a selling point. (Yes I am catholic) Now this missionary work argument really made me laugh. It's a stupid argument, but what was ironic is that UConn was doing volunteer work at that game. UConn students brought underprivileged youths to the game and they had to explain to these youths that it's not right to go around kicking people in the head.
St. Johns vs UConn soccer is getting to be one great rivalry in both men's and women's soccer. I'm looking forward to both games next year. I might, just might have to go to St. Johns next year to watch the women play. I disdain St. John's and there fans that much. I hope both the men and women win 5-0. I hope Toni gets a red card early on and we still win 5-0.
When UConn played St. Johns in Women's Basketball last season half of St. John's was suspended for the game. They played with 6 players. Maybe they were suspended for doing missionary work.
I bet the women's soccer team has forgotten about St. Johns. But I haven't.
It's sad for the world and for sports that someone thinks its ok to kick another
athlete who is lying on the ground in the head and then seriously try to defend it and defame every UConn student, faculty member and athlete at the same time. I usually get to see him at Christmas and New Years, don't think that I won't continue this conversation.
