I'm talking about Tiger Woods again. Who isn't?
It might actually be a good thing for golf if they have to focus on marketing the sport without Tiger. Well good in the long run. Obviously it's really really really really bad for now that there is no Tiger. Let's be honest I can't remember the last time I watched golf when Tiger wasn't playing. However, Golf needs to be about more than just Tiger. One event shouldn't be great just because one player shows up.
Golf needs to prove it's more than just about Tiger Woods. It needs other compelling figures that it can sell. It needs to sell the game and other players and not just Tiger Woods. Having to practice doing that with Tiger being out for some time should make the game better when Woods comes back.
I'd say it's sort of like having a diverse portfolio. You don't want all your eggs in one basket, the way golf seems to have it with Tiger Woods.
