Some Stuff from reading

I was reading the NCAA Champion magazine and found a few interesting things.

The first thing is that I realize that I am a little old school. Until 7th grade my parents didn't get cable. I couldn't watch the Mets play unless it was a weekend game on WPIX or Fox. I would do what millions of people before me did and listen to games by radio. I don't think I huddled around the radio for a couple hours, but I do remember that I'd often fall asleep listening to the game on the radio.

I also read an article about a 7th grade girl in Houston who made a collage all of the college logos. She said her favorite logo was Central Florida...but it was followed closely by UConn's logo. She said the Husky is well designed and that the school colors go well with it. I just thought it was interesting that a young girl in Houston would like the UConn logo.

Lastly I was reading about some streaks in college sports. I thought that this streak was incredible and would interest the Mayor of Storrs. Penn State Women's Volleyball won 111 straight sets (sets, not matches) between the end of 2007 up until they faced Nebraska in the NCAA Semifinals in front of 17,430 fans. They ended up beating Nebraska and went on to go a perfect 38-0 in Women's Volleyball. I had no idea about that streak or that Penn State went undefeated.

Another amazing streak takes place at Kenyon College. The Men's Swimming and Diving Team has won 30 consecutive Division III National Championships. That is also the school that Dr. Bruening was an Athletic Director at for 2 years.

Stanford has won atleast one National Championship for 32 straight years.

St. Martin basketball player Jamey Gelher made a women's record 78 straight free throws during the 2008-09 season.

North Carolina Women's Soccer won 9 consecutive National Championships between 1986 and 1994. They have 18 National Championships altogether.
