I also found this interesting

Just happened to be surfing the internet and I found out that a typical WPSL teams budget is between $25,000 and 30,000. Thought it was interesting.

  1. Doug Miller stepped up in the later part of May to take on the responsiblities of reforming the Rochester Ravens. He worked within a smaller budget than average.
Training was twice a week for team and coaches, no speciality training for the goal-keepers. The keepers had to make do with outside of practice with friends and/or family serving the balls.

Some community businesses and individuals helped out financially. Doug bore the burden and the commitment.
His efforts, while not paid off in wins, provided the women an opportunity to polish their skills and return to their fall programs/schools with experience.

  2. I think practicing with friends and family for goalkeepers, while obviously not ideal, is pretty cool because of the effort it takes to make that happen.

I must admit that I hadn't heard of the W-League until May when my friend told me about it. I read about the WPSL in a media guide. I like that women's soccer gets a chance to get experience in the summer, just like baseball.

I read that the first women's soccer national team had it really rough in terms of amenities. I don't remember the details off hand but I'll look them up at some point and put them up here. I thought some of the stuff that I read was bizarre.
