Media Guide stuff

Lauren Lamberti is a facebook friend of mine. She added me before she got to UConn. So did Rebecca Murray, except Rebecca Murray also added my neighbor who doesn't go to UConn Storrs for some reason unknown to my neighbor.

Once I got the Volleyball media guide I noticed something funny. Lamberti's birthday didn't seem right to me. It said it was August 15th, yet I didn't remember her birthday coming up on my facebook in August. I checked her profile and sure enough it was in September and not August. I confirmed her birthday with her and then told someone in athletics who fixed it.

Strange but true......I guess I am really observant and have a great memory of completely random and useless things.

Margot Demere made me laugh when I read about her in the media guide. She listed that she can make dolphin and monkey noises and that we shouldn't ask about it. We should just accept it.

I brought this up to her when we were raising money for Dig for the Cure. She didn't remember what she wrote. Unlike most athletes who write something in the media guide, Demere atleast tried to make it funny.

Amanda Schwartz's stuff wasn't boring either. I laughed when she put Pros vs Joes down for something that she wrote in there. Like Demere, neither Schwartz or Brianna Gray remembered what they actually wrote for the media guide.

I'll never forget reading that former Two Time Big East Softball player of the year, Micah Truax, wrote that her favorite athlete was the hot dog eater, Kobayashi.

Also here is one final thing on media guides.

When it comes to heights, people lie. In many sports (especially college football and basketball...it came up in the book "Meat Market") Recruits sometimes lie in sports to give them an advantage or extra look. Some people round up...a lot. Some people estimate. However, if you think that a height of your favorite athlete in sports is wrong it probably is. Many athletes are a certain height on a good day...or game day.

This came up at work today. Someone said they liked this six foot middle hitter. Then they go...Well she's at least 5' 10''

I have begun to think/realize that measurements by athletes can be inaccurate for a couple reasons...one, teams lie....two, the players self report them and they lie...

Your getting stuff that is putting you in the ball park...but not right field...more like the 2nd deck in right field. That is not to say that everyone is lying. Some heights are accurate but many are rounded to a level that suits someone the best.
