I didn't watch the ESPY's (I actually spent time last night moving furniture for the people I am staying with and then got to use a power saw for the first time in my life...I can still type so I was successful) and don't really care about the ESPY's but I cared enough to see who won.
I do not understand how UCONN Women's Basketball, a team that has now won 78 straight games, did not win the BEST TEAM. It's pretty clear to me, and should be to most people, that UCONN Women's Basketball had the best TEAMWORK and therefore was the BEST TEAM.
Any sports award or vote that allows fans to vote is somewhat meaningless. A Kansas City Royal who is hitting .350 will not get in the All-Star game over a Boston Red Sox or New York Yankee who is hitting .270. Big markets and teams with lots of followings get the most votes.
Events that get the most media coverage win. Events that happened recently are fresher in the minds of casual voters and therefore are most likely to win. The best and most deserving is not the most likely to win.
