Baseball players are really superstitious and so am I. There are a lot of things you just don't do in baseball, like talk about a no-hitter, or step on the foul line. I sure as heck was not about to write about our impressive winning streak in baseball.
Now I can talk about it because we finally lost. UConn managed to win 22 straight games, which is really impressive in baseball. Baseball is not a sport in which the best team will go undefeated. The best teams lose a lot.
Anyway it was so much fun to watch UConn go on this impressive winning streak. I was impressed at 10 games, 15 games, 20 games and finally 22 games. Towards the middle to end part of the steak I expected that the team might lose a close game in a BIG EAST series, but I am impressed that they did not. In the end UConn only lost one game in the month of April.
The UConn baseball team as received some great pitching performances this year. Matt Barnes and Elliot Glynn have been consistently great and Greg Nappo has had a solid year.
The offense can just put up runs quickly. The middle of the line-up can't get much better with George Springer, Mike Nemeth and Mike Olt. It feels like at least one of them goes yard every time you go and watch the team. Having Pierre LePage playing great defense at second base and getting on base while batting is also key to the teams success.
On top of those players, everyone else in the daily line-up comes through. Kevin Vance, Nick Ahmed, Billy Ferriter and John Andreoli have all had key hits and key moments. Andreoli's walk off hit against Rutgers last weekend was special.
Hopefully the baseball team can keep going. The team is ranked for the first time in many many many years. UConn has been as high as 13th in one poll. Hopefully we will see ourselves on ESPN in the summer.
go uconnnnn
