We were talking about reasons that leagues would want to have age limits for players in class today.
What the public is told for football in particular is that it is because they don't want to hurt the athletes who are physically unprepared at 19 for the NFL.
Also as a side note I found it funny how David Stern went on air and talked about why the one year of college rule before NBA draft rule went into effect and never mentioned going to college as being a benefit of the rule. He mentioned that it would help improve their preparation for the league, but not that it would allow players to gain college credit.
Anyway, a reason that they have that age limit in place for the NFL draft is because it helps make the talent pool smaller, so less players can compete for NFL rosters.
It also allows for players to train and gain experience while not having an NFL team have to pay for that experience and training. College's pay the expenses of schooling. It also allows the NFL and it's teams to not have to worry about paying a player that goes down with an injury while young.
Thought that was all interesting.
