I love that parents of players are good fans. I love that some field hockey parents traveled 6 hours during the work week to see a game. That's passion. That's borderline crazy, but I love it.
I do not like it when parents become referees or coaches. That is crossing a line. I heard a parent at the Penn State vs Wake Forest game yell "pass it to Katie."
I can think of nothing worse to say. Being in to the game is good, coaching and pressuring kids to make plays is not good. It's counterproductive.
People need to let the referees make the calls because like it or not they get things right most of the time. They are fair and objective people.
Kids also don't need to think that they are letting their parents down...Let the kids play, start chants and cheer on the team...but parents shouldn't yell or criticize. It does no good.
