So here are my thoughts on Big Papi...
Am I surprised...absolutely not. He was cut by the Twins outright and then got to the Red Sox and became really really good.
I'm not surprised about any major leaguer anymore...especially power hitters.
Do I think the Red Sox should forfeit wins or world series...absolutely not. First of all, the Yankees could forfeit a lot of things because of steriods too. So hearing that coming from Yankees fans is really hypocritical.
Secondly, and I hate to say this, but it looks like almost everyone who was a difference maker in baseball used steriods. So in 2004 and 2007 the Red Sox were still the best team in those years because almost everyone else was doing it.
Obviously everything from those two years are somewhat tainted...but I don't know what is or isn't tainted in baseball anymore.
I also don't understand how you can vacate wins, like the NCAA does. It's fine that you erase them from the record books, but at the time the games were played someone lost. We can't go back and replay the game so vacating wins in any sport doesn't really matter to me. At the time a team won and the other lost and there is nothing that can be done to change that.
Unlike some of the other players whose names have come out, (A-Rod, Giambi, Clemens, Manny Ramirez, Barry Bonds) Big Papi is someone who is loveable. It's hard to accept that he did take drugs. He was such a good story. He gave the city of Boston so many great moments. I think that Big Papi's problems are really hard for baseball to take.
I also don't know what to think about the list of these players. I think that some players should just own up to it before it's leaked. In many cases fans wouldn't be surprised. I'd sort of like the whole list to just be released so that we can move on. Yet at the same time the list is supposed to be private so releasing it would be unfair.
I also have to say that two people win whenever these names come out and they are Jose Canseco and Barry Bonds. Bonds looks better and better now that so many of his peers have been caught. Canseco, like him or not, has been pretty truthful and I take his words seriously.

I make sure I don't do those things, for him."
