Today I also mowed the lawn, went for at least a 3-4 mile run and biked 22 miles. Afterwards I took my first (REALLY COLD WATER) bath because I was well really sore after also running and biking yesterday too. The running I've been doing for a while but the cycling is getting back into my routine. My leg muscles were just in shock and just so sore.
I love the feeling, but I thought that an ice bath would be beneficial.
I hate cold weather and cold water. It took me forever to get into this water. I put my lower legs in first by slightly kneeling down. Then I got braver and kneeled all the way down. By this point I was laughing at myself, I think I used laughing to cope with the fact that I was freezing. I also hit my head against the wall to try and deflect the cold feeling I felt in my legs. Finally I got acclimated and sat all the way in...but man it took awhile. If it works, I'll have to do it again.
I am becoming even healthier this summer. I am trying to stretch even more than in years past. I'm also working hard to cut out junk food and I continue to work out like before. People don't realize, especially athletes, how many calories they burn when they are competing and when they are young. As you get older I know you have to combine healthy eating with exercise to be healthy. I'm in good shape but I need to do this for my own health. If I don't have good habits now, I'll die earlier than I should in the future. God forbid me eating an extra cookie now will cost me from seeing UConn Women's Soccer beating the crap out of St. Johns 80 years from now. I hope I live just long enough to see that happen one last time before I die.
No doubt that Ohio State video that Dr. Fink showed us inspired me to say that.
